DCMS MEETING Tessa Jowell Minister of Culture – 8 OCTOBER 2002

By way of demonstrating her support for the Triple A Development Project 2000 Tessa Jowell set up a meeting between directors from Triple A and representatives from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to discuss the future of the Armstrong Multimedia Arts academy. Support for the concept has already been received from the DCMS and the purpose of the meeting was to forge a working relationship to take the project forward.

The attendees were:

Terry Armstrong – CEO, Triple A Multimedia Group

Jason Armstrong – Director, Triple A Multimedia Group

Scott Armstrong – Director, Triple A Multimedia Group

Sally Edgington - Head of Export, Education and Policy Co-ordination. DCMS

Mark Bates - Senior Policy Adviser. DCMS

Liz Sweet - Project Manager and Education Policy Adviser Export, Education and Policy Co-ordination. DCMS

Although the Government can not commit funds to the project at the present time, it was very well received and it was generally agreed that they could point Triple A Group in the right direction with regards to phase two of the groups strategy to launch several of the Academy's media related education and training programmes.

FINANCING THE FUTURE

Where does the funding come from for such an innovative project?

It’s a commercial project so student fees will form the base, in addition, finance will come from both the public and private sectors within the media industry. European and Lottery funding if successful, also has its place, but backing will become predominantly from Commerce. Major Media Companies have agreed to help in principle and as the project gains more backing from MPs such as Tessa Jowell and the then KCC leader Sandy-Bruce Lockhart, interest is snowballing. Don’t be the last to jump on the bandwagon.

SIGNALS FROM SEEDA

SEEDA, otherwise known as the South East Development Agency, are playing a crucial role in the development of The Armstrong Multimedia Arts Academy.

Without their backing it would be very difficult to base this unique project in the South East area. Our presentation, back in the schemes infancy and made in conjunction with Business link Kent was extremely well received, but in order to secure Kent’s future as the home of progressive Arts Education, we must push on and brush needless bureaucracy aside.
